Team Building Activities For Work

Why Team Building Works For Business

Corporate team building since the days of the Roman Empire and beyond is the method that captains of industry employ to generate more constructive energy than the sum of the individual parts.

A classic example of corporate team building at its best was Henry V at the Battle of Agincourt when he led the English army on an “away day” to France and utilised team building ideas to take on the superior numbers of French soldiers.

For many organisations, the last couple of years have also been a battle for survival and for some the war has yet to be won. Team building ideas come in many forms but they mostly have one single message whatever the team building exercise and that is to respect and value each member of a workforce. King Henry V is reported to have moved amongst his men the night before the battle, not as a king but as a soldier, to hear his men’s genuine concerns about the day that lay ahead so that in the morning he could position his archers more effectively and choose the right words to rally his foot soldiers.

Corporate team building and team building activities enable a certain level of reinvention so that the participants that may be pigeonholed by their roles at work can find new routes to display their skills. Team building games provide an opportunity for work colleagues to see each other in a fresh light, thereby developing a new dynamic that will enhance the effectiveness of a business team.

Team building ideas whether it’s indoor team building or a team building exercise in the great outdoors introduce new viewpoints into a team dynamic.  It is generally considered that there are about nine defined roles in most business teams and that members of a team usually have skills that cover two, three or four of the roles. People assume well-worn roles much like an actor in a soap opera and redefining those roles and re-evaluating the skills that others can offer whist remaining within the confines of an office environment, often proves very difficult.

Team building ideas for work challenge the managerial skills of creative people and the imagination of team managers. It is only by entering a completely new world that individuals at all levels within a business can change their way of thinking and learn more productive methods when working with colleagues.
